April 25 – Donuts 2 – BT3 – 3

April 26th, 2010

Sunday April 25th the Donuts squared off against BT3 (Black an Tan 3) for the bragging rights to the D-South 2010 Winter Championship.  Both teams came out playing hard, in the end the Donuts short bench would be their undoing.

The score remained 0-0 till midway through the 2nd period when BT3 went ahead by one goal.  The Donut’s #44 Chris Flemming tied the game off with a drop pass from Kaleb and the shot was reminiscent of the Peter Bondra shots, Chris put his whole body into it and the goal went in the net and Chris went back on his back.

With less than 5 minutes to go in the 3rd #88 Shane (Doan) Hoverman put in a short handed goal un-assisted to put the Donuts up 2-1.

BT3 came on with a vengeance and tied the game up and eventually went ahead with about 2 minutes to go in the game.

It was a great played game between the two teams.  John (The Donuts Goaltender) put up and outstanding display of how to keep pucks out of the net.  He stopped 20 of the 23 shots that came at him Sunday Night; (5 in the 1st; 6 in the 2nd; and 12 in the 3rd).  The Donuts wouldn’t have made it this far without his support all season.

Summer Session starts up in 2 weeks.

April 18 – Donuts 4 – Foxes and Hounds 0

April 21st, 2010

The Donuts showed up to face off against the Foxes and Hounds for a chance to play in the D-South Championship in their first appearance in the D-South league after moving up from the Novice Monday Night E-League.

The Donuts did not disappoint their 3 fans in attendance on Sunday.  John put up another shutout game, his first of the playoffs and 4th since joining the Donuts in January.

The Donuts move on to play in the Sunday Night D-South Championship game on Sunday April 25th at 8pm at the Dublin Chiller.

April 11 – Donuts Advance: 4 – 2 over the Benders

April 12th, 2010
The Donuts trailed much of last nights game.  The Benders found the back of the net in the first minute of the first period.  It wasn’t until Doan nifty wrister tied the game at 1 in the second period.  The Benders took the lead once again in the second period.  Unlike prior prior games, this one was a fairly clean and well played game, however, Sprinkle hit the sin bin for Hooking and Slashing in the second period.  Yes, two penalties on the same shift.  The Donuts killed both minor penalties.  Doaner once again found pay dirt, on a laser blast from the point.  OK, so it dribbled in… looks the same on the sheet.  That tied the game at 2.  The third period was all Donuts, finding the net in the first minute of the 3rd was Saas from a sweet pass by Snoop.  From there on, it was the Donuts shut-down defense’s turn.  The game was put away on Sprinkle’s empty netter with less than a minute to go.

March 28 – Donuts 3 Ohio Mayhem 1

March 29th, 2010

The Donuts end the the regular season with a win over Ohio Mayhem 3-1.  Previously this season Ohio Mayhem was the only team to defeat the Donuts with a last minute goal.  This was remembered by the Donuts, and they were out to set the record straight.

John stopped 9 of the 10 shots Ohio Mayhem put on neat; while the Donuts peppered the Ohio Mayhem keeper with 29 shots on goal.

It was hard for the Donuts to get a feel for what the officiating crew was going to call and what they weren’t going to call, all that can really be said about that is the calls were mostly even, if not quite frequent enough in the opinion of the Donuts.  There was lots of slashing and tripping and cross checking to the back going on.

In other news, Ohio Mayhem’s play off chances were ended with their defeat and the victory of the Donuts rival from E-League, The Benders.

The Donuts face off against The Benders on April 11th at 7:30pm at Chiller North.

Mar 21 – Donuts 1 Yokos 0

March 23rd, 2010

The Donuts faced off against Yokos on Mar 21st at 9:50pm at the Chiller North.

The best that can be said is that there was very little coherence between the Donuts on Sunday night.

Yoko’s came at us with a fury.  The put 28 shots on John.  And congrats to John to stopped all of them!  Well Caleb will argue that he stopped a couple, and at least once he even dropped to his knees to block a shot.  And then there was Hook who tried to play goalie too, however, it turns out that if you aren’t the goalie you aren’t supposed to fall on the puck (and cover it up with your hand), however, this is his first penalty in the 39 games the Donuts have been playing Ice Hockey.
The Donuts weren’t too impressive offensively on Sunday night.  They only managed to put 13 shots between the pipes.  Luckily Flemming was able to dunk one of them into the net.

We need to shore up our positioning going into the playoffs, and even in our last game.  The points were left open at both ends of the ice.  There were some long shifts.
Lets go Donuts!  Perhaps it was a fluke since it was a late night game.  Next game is Sunday March 28th.

Mar 14 – Donuts 2 / Rox 1 Overtime!

March 19th, 2010

The Donuts were missing their captain who is the Donut’s leading goal scorer and also leads the race in the points category for this session.

Qunzer was called up from the Donut’s reserve list to step in to give the Donuts 3 full forward lines.

The first period was full of a lot of back and forth between the Donuts and Rox, both teams were getting a feel for what the other team had.  The Rox were able to put up 4 shots on John and the Donuts only put up two shots on the Rox keeper.

The second the Donuts took the lead with a slapshot from Snoop that ended up in the net, somehow off of the guy who wears #65.  The ref had to tell Saas that he just scored, because he didn’t know he’d batted it into the net.

Early in the 3rd period the Rox scored on John with an outstanding goal that was batted out of mid-air right in front of John to tie the game up.  Not to be shut down the Donuts skated harder and worked together as more of a team unit, but nothing paid off and the game went to overtime.  The Donuts lit up the 3rd period with 7 shots on the goalie, but was unable to get any of them past his glove.

5 minutes of overtime with a running clock is a joke.  A running clock is ridiculous (well except for when a team is up by 6 goals).  These adult fun leagues – we just don’t setup / change lines / reset fast enough.  Half of the running clock was lost to slow line changes during stopages and what-not.

The Donuts 6 shots on the goalie and dominance in overtime paid off with 44 seconds left in the running-clock period when Thompson pounded one in that started out as a slapshot from Bond at the left point, knocked to the corner where Spires dug it out, centered it up and Flemming and Thompson wacked at it until it got past the keeper.

Mar 7 – Donuts 8 Mo’s 1

March 8th, 2010

The Donuts lit it up tonight.  Even though the the score ended up 8-1, Mo’s wasn’t a push over, the Donuts had to earn every single goal.

Our Goaltender put on a Luango like show last night jumping, diving, butterfling all over the place to a near perfect performance.  John did a great job covering back when we had a breakdown in defensive coverage and communications.

Don Smith got tired of playing defense week after week and jumped in to add two goals.  Bond also was itching to get on the stat sheet as well because throughout the game he kept jumping into the scrum to earn a goal.

Another notable mention, to recollection, this is the first game the Donuts didn’t add to their Penalty Minute Statistic, in other we had NO PENALTIES!

Feb 28 Donuts 2 BT3 0

March 3rd, 2010

The Donuts pulled off a close game that was scoreless until under 3min left in the third period.

The Donuts shot themselves in the foot with two bench minors. Both of the minors were too many men on the ice. Both were questionable in my opinion (since one was on me).

The Donuts skated hard and came out on top at the end of the game and Saas didn’t even wiff on an empty net goal!

Great game guys.

Feb 21 Donuts 1 – FRA 1

February 22nd, 2010

The Donuts lost a forward to broken rib in last game; so we called up Quinzer from your Injured Reserved List to replace our broken skater (Flemming).

And everyone else showed up – which is the first time that’s happened since the first game if I recall.
The Donuts were off tonight.  There was very little passing and team effort.  Which was turned out to be our crutch.  Our one goal came from our 1 C-Level defensive man circling the goal and chipping a pass to Watermna who slam-dunked it into the goal for our tie-ing and only goal.

FRA has more than a few more advanced skaters – however – they seemed to be almost as team-deficient tonight as the Donuts did; there was very little accurate passing and teamwork put out by them as well.
Come on Donuts we have to bring our A-Game every Game.
