The Donuts were missing their captain who is the Donut’s leading goal scorer and also leads the race in the points category for this session.
Qunzer was called up from the Donut’s reserve list to step in to give the Donuts 3 full forward lines.
The first period was full of a lot of back and forth between the Donuts and Rox, both teams were getting a feel for what the other team had. The Rox were able to put up 4 shots on John and the Donuts only put up two shots on the Rox keeper.
The second the Donuts took the lead with a slapshot from Snoop that ended up in the net, somehow off of the guy who wears #65. The ref had to tell Saas that he just scored, because he didn’t know he’d batted it into the net.
Early in the 3rd period the Rox scored on John with an outstanding goal that was batted out of mid-air right in front of John to tie the game up. Not to be shut down the Donuts skated harder and worked together as more of a team unit, but nothing paid off and the game went to overtime. The Donuts lit up the 3rd period with 7 shots on the goalie, but was unable to get any of them past his glove.
5 minutes of overtime with a running clock is a joke. A running clock is ridiculous (well except for when a team is up by 6 goals). These adult fun leagues – we just don’t setup / change lines / reset fast enough. Half of the running clock was lost to slow line changes during stopages and what-not.
The Donuts 6 shots on the goalie and dominance in overtime paid off with 44 seconds left in the running-clock period when Thompson pounded one in that started out as a slapshot from Bond at the left point, knocked to the corner where Spires dug it out, centered it up and Flemming and Thompson wacked at it until it got past the keeper.
